1. Odd numbers

Styling up your coffee table, night stand or shelf with various interior items sorted in odd numbers creates visual harmony. It is also welcomed to include various small accessories with different shapes, sizes and textures.

2. Rule 10-30-60

Once you know what your desired colour palette is, you need to know what role they will play in your overall scheme. This rule means you choose a dominant colour, a secondary colour and an accent colour.  

The dominant color should be 60% of the room and be reasonably neutral. 

The secondary color is usually bolder and can be used for furniture pieces and covers 30% of the room.

While the accent focus should be on accessories, pillows or rugs to form the remaining 10%.

3. Find the focal point

A rooms focal point is its most emphasised and eye-catching feature. As a point you can put a dramatic painting over the fireplace or more sophisticated furniture or why not, even an architectural work you want to achieve.Whatever it is, the focal point should instantly attract attention when you enter the room.

Arrange the other side of the room, making sure it compliments that point rather than competes with it.

4. Respect the “negative” space

The negative space is the area that is not taken by any subject.  Usually, it is the white area of the walls or the space between the furniture. However, you may have the thought of filling it too! Do not be tempted! :))

 5. Find out the general dimensions

To get a balance in your home, you need to know the general dimensions of the key elements.

For example: leave about 40cm space between sofas and coffee tables.

When hanging pictures on the wall, the center of it should be at the eye level, usually around 140-150cm from the floor.

Install the curtains up to 10 cm above the window frame and let them fall to the floor, creating an elegant atmosphere.
